The man formerly known as the Fresh Prince has been on one lately.
Will Smith randomly hopped on Bomba Estereo’s “Fiesta” (Remix) a few days ago after a decade away from music, but what he revealed to Zane Lowe on Beats One Radio made the move seem a lot less arbitrary.
Smith said that he’s in the studio every day and is sitting on about six or seven tracks after being reinvigorated by what Jaden and Willow are doing with their music. He is also gearing up to reunite with Jazzy Jeff for their “first official world tour.” Spitting some Spanglish over world music with electro leanings is different than dropping something the heads or even the masses can rock to, and Smith is “terrified” about dropping new music (and performing his old stuff). Dude looks good though at 47, and he claims to have have a reservoir of creative youthful energy to tap into. Hopefully, his pen-and-pad skills have aged as well as he has. Especially since he plans on rapping “until I’m 70 or 80 years old.”
Other gems he handed Lowe with little provocation include another Bad Boys film that is “a strong possibility” to come out in the next 12 to 16 months, Jared Leto’s intensity on set for 2016’s Suicide Squad, and his willingness to “fail forward” after the “thoroughly and completely accepted failure” that was After Earth. As charismatic and down-to-earth as we have come to know him, it seems Smith is ready to take on all of these projects at once and reclaim his spot as number one entertainer in the fam.
