Weekly Mixtape Round-Up: Tyga, Erykah Badu, Sean Price, and More
Hi. I'd like to hurry up with this intro so I can get right to Tyga's mixtape because I am so disturbed. So, I'm going to politely ask how your week went, what your plans are for the weekend, and then exit stage left so we can get this shit show moving.
Tyga - 'Fuk Wat They Talkin' Bout'
TYGA! What in the entire Nation of Fuckslam were you thinking with $timulated? That LINE is so about your bussit baby Kylie, and I give zero fucks if she's 18 now, she damn sure wasn't 18 when you were "inspired" to write that. Ugh. I'm just going to bump this and pretend this isn't about Baby Jenner, because I actually kind of like this mixtape. I hate myself.
Erykah Badu - 'Feel Better, World!...Love, Ms. Badu'
And then Erykah Badu comes through with a playlist and makes everything alright. So this is like some gentle jazzy Spotify-esque mix, but what I really want to know is if Erykah is going the Lauryn route with this "Ms." business, because it doesn't feel like an ode to Gloria Steinem's magazine.
Teyana Taylor - 'The Cassette Tape 1994'
I'm pretty sure Teyana Taylor has no clue what 1994 looked, but hey, she does a damn-good job of channeling that shit on this EP. Every track feels like it was pulled from the New Jack Swing Era, and it's fucking fantastic. Seriously, you can play this and legit think she was like in Brownstone or Changing Faces or something. So here for it.
Sean P - 'Songs In The Key of Price'
Listen, I'm still not over losing Ruck, and this EP is just indicative of what a HUGE fucking loss it was when he passed recently. All I can say is that if you're not too fluent on this legend, start with this new project and then work all the way back.
Hollywood FLOSS - 'Nature Of The Game'
I did Hollywood FLOSS' bio years back, and he was a super cool dude. This project is good so you should check it and give him a chance. K thanks.
Eric Dingus - 'Is There In Truth No Beauty'
Eric Dingus hands out with OVO and has produced this beautiful beat project for us all. If you think your shitty bars belong on this, then you are so sorely mistaken. I need you to back it up. Your mic too.
SKAM2? - 'The SKRONIK: Flying Monkey Murder Cirkus'
This dropped last week, but fuck your feelings. I missed it with the previous column. No disappointments on this one. No complaints.
