Tame Impala “Mind Mischief”
Scandalous teacher-student relationships aren’t just the stuff of reoccurring headlines, in the video for Australian psychedelic band Tame Impala’s “Mind Mischief,” it’s front and center. Urban Outfitters and Modular People co-produced a classic school boy fantasy of being hot for teacher, leading to a launch into a cartoonish cosmos of pleasure, straight ’60s and ’70s acid rock style.
It’s a bumpy ride, though. One minute the student’s drifting off in class, and the next he’s earning extra credit after school with Ms. All-the-boys-like-me. Their one-on-one time soon ends once the kid is chewed up and spit out by his teacher, left disheveled on the roadside. It’s a cautionary tale of why all instructors need to be unsexy old hags, who wear full-length skirts and don’t drive cool old French cars . . . or something. Tame Impala is for the children.
