With Independence Day quickly approaching, it’s about time sneakerheads get some kicks to showcase their passion for the stars and stripes. Philadelphia’s UBIQ will be releasing their take on the New Balance 1600 model, tipping their hat to one of the city’s most iconic leaders. When you think of Benjamin Franklin you probably think of C-Notes, key-tied kites, and ruffled shirts; but the Philly boutique is breaking that notion with these 1600s.
The sneaker synthesizes textures of suede and leather patches throughout, with a palette that would make “The First American” proud. The 1600 collab is comprised of a red and blue suede upper, with touches of hazel leather around the eyelets, white leather sock lining, topped off with a speckled white midsole, and finishing with a gum bottom sole that fades into red at the heel. Judging from the photos, “The Benjamin” looks like it will be getting limited laser-etched wood box packaging from the folks over at Good Wood. No word on whether the wood box will be a UBIQ exclusive.
Whatever the case, look for these to release this Saturday, June 29th, in-store and online via UBIQ, and at later dates from exclusive New Balance retailers.
