Who would have thought you’d find “Weird Al” Yankovic, Katy Perry, Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Danny Elfman, Nick Cave, and Tyler, the Creator on the same album, let alone performing the same song?
Brought together by Mark Ryden (the artist behind Tyler, the Creator’s Wolf album cover) in the name of charity, the musicians perform renditions of “Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two).” Released as part of Ryden’s new exhibit, “The Gay 90s,” which opened today at Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles, the LP is titled The Gay Nineties Old Tyme Music: Daisy Bell.
Only 999 copies of the album have been pressed, and each copy costs $99.99. A hefty price tag for sure, but the proceeds go to Little Kids Rock, an organization that provides music lessons and instruments to students across America. All hand-numbered and signed by Ryden, half of the albums are available for purchase now at Kohn Gallery, while the other half will be available for purchase on Ryden’s website May 13.
