Tumblr announced earlier this week that they have partnered with photo analysis company Ditto Labs to inspect an estimated 130 million photo posts a day and provide intel to advertisers and brands.
The average user shouldn’t worry, however, as the implementation will have no impact on the user experience. Well, aside from companies using their information to
figure out a way to make you even more of a slave to their corporate agendas better understand how consumers engage with their products and brands. Here’s what T.R Newcomb, Tumblr’s head of business development, had to say to Mashable.com:
“Right now, we’re not planning to do anything ad-related. If Coke wants to understand the nature of the conversation about them on Tumblr, Ditto can sift through and deliver it to Coke.”
As the folks over at Dazed pointed out, if this upsets you and leads you to an alternative like Pinterest, you’re still shit out of luck. They also purchased a similar company in VisualGraph, which does the same thing with brand-related data.
