Trinidad James ft. ILoveMakonnen “H.O.M.E (Hatin On Me)”
The Drake feature worked for Makonnen, will the Makonnen feature work for T James?
Trinidad James may have gotten dropped from Def Jam, but that’s not stopping him from reppin’ his “H.O.M.E.,” and this time around he’s joined by the ATL Wave’s newest draft pick, ILoveMakonnen. Makonnen, who has emerged as one of Atlanta’s newest Trap Troubadours, lends his booming and melodious vocals to compliment Trinidad’s ever-brooding delivery.
While this is Trinidad James’ track, let’s be real, he is eclipsed by the hottest thing pumping out of Atlanta right now. Sonny Digital takes the reigns on this melodic number, producing a track that crescendoes as magnificently as it comes right back, quelling its own energy— this may be one of the few times where a rap song made us remember the term crescendo.
While Trinidad James touches on the industry, haters, women, material things, drugs— things that have become myopic tropes rather than the spoils of a illustrious career in rap— Makonnen reels the track in with yet another infectious hook, which almost serves as the remedy or guidance for James’ ill fate.
This is an interesting coupling, and the results are somewhat memorable. If only James’ had let this fly a little bit earlier, maybe his career with Def Jam would still have wings… Then again, Drake co-signed Makonnen and this feature is one of the first joints to drop since, so does that mean Drake co-signs Trinidad James? Perhaps there’s hope, but if not, we hope there’s a video for this and hat Makonnen’s rocking ruffled shirts, velvet topcoats, and beasting on keys like Amadeus!
