Toronto Raptors Go 0 to -$25,000, Real Quick, Thanks to Drake
No harm, no foul.
Kevin Durant isn’t a free agent for another two years, but NBA teams are already fiending to get the 2014 MVP on their squad. Drake, prolific rapper and the Toronto Raptors team ambassador, is trying to sway KD to the ‘6’ as well, but the NBA ain’t having it.
During Drake’s OVO Fest last weekend, he shouted out Durant during his performance. “Before we leave, I just want to show one of my brothers something,” Drake said to the crowd. “You know, my brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us. I just want him to see what would happen if he came and played in Toronto. Let him know what would happen.” Of course everyone went bananas, giving KD a little taste of what life in the 6 may be like.
However, the NBA wasn’t very pleased with Drake’s ‘pitch.’ Apparently, Drake asking the crowd to show KD some love was in violation of the NBA’s anti-tampering rules. The Raptors have been fined $25,000 because of Drake’s comments, but they’ve gotten some major publicity in the process.
We doubt anyone in the Toronto Raptors organization is mad at the rapper. In fact, they brought him on board because he’s a high profile celebrity who has draw like that. Drizzy was simply doing his job here. No harm, no foul.
