Tony Hawk Donates $30K to Detroit DIY Skatepark

The Birdman puts his money where Detroit's skateboards are.

The Birdman, Tony Hawk, keeps true to his skateboard roots and takes his philanthropic endeavors to a place that can probably use it more than any North American city — Detroit. According to a recent news story and profile, the 45-year-old mogul’s Tony Hawk Foundation just donated a whopping $30,000 to help ignite the momentum of local skate haven, Ride It Sculpture Park. A few locals — both a parent and a skater — were on deck to detail the implications of such a generous donation.
