Tony Allen “Go Back” ft. Damon Albarn

The two friends go back, and continue forward.

Tony Allen (not be confused with this defensive beast)— celebrated drummer, former musical director for Fela Kuti, and pioneer of Afrobeat music— has just shared the single “Go Back,” featuring former Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn. Having previously worked with legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and Thelonius Monk, Allen’s latest release is simply another addition to his list of standout collaborations.

Albarn, fresh off his solo debut Everyday Robots, adds vocals and keyboard’s to Allen’s stellar beat. This isn’t the pairs first time working together, having both been members of Rocket Juice and The Moon, which also featured Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. It is always nice to see a musical friendship stand the test of time and take both artists in unexpected directions.

Listen to the track above, as it really sounds like a playful ray of sunshine, sure to brighten up your Wednesday. “Go Back” appears on Allen’s upcoming album Film Of Life, releasing in October.
