Who would you rather see in a bikini: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Kate Upton or Larry David?
Most would argue Kate, while a very specific few (Curb Your Enthusiasm stans, no doubt) would root for David.
Upton plays Sister Bernince, a kind and gorgeously-bodied nun in this weekend’s opening of the 20th Century Fox reboot The Three Stooges, and the Catholic League is not feeling it. Why? Upton is wearing a nun-kini—a bikini fashioned with a nun’s habit. Cue the controversy.
Upton’s slam comes weeks after the 19-year-old Michigan hottie’s Zoo York commercial was banned from MTV and Cartoon Network, cited as being as racy and in appropriate for broadcast.
“The TV shows never mocked nuns or showed infants urinating in the face of the Stooges,” Catholic League spokesperson Bill Donohue said in a statement. “In the 1950s, Hollywood generally avoided crude fare and was respectful of religion. Today it specializes in crudity and trashes Christianity, especially Catholicism.”
A 20th Century Fox spokesman, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, defended Upton’s bikini clad nuns, saying Upton and the other nuns in the film are depicted as caring characters, adding, “As far as the nun attire, I think we did the audience a favor by letting Kate Upton wear the nun-kini rather than (co-star) Larry David. It could have gone either way.”
Poor, gorgeous Kate Upton just can’t catch a break!
