I’ve been through a lot of changes in my life musically. I once bought a Slipknot album. Okay, I bought TWO Slipknot albums. Also, I sang in two choirs in high school. Now I can’t even sing along to the new Pharrell without my voice cracking like a pubescent middle schooler. What I’m trying to say is musical development happens to us all. Whether you’re a full grown man with two Slipknot compact discs in your parents basement or you’re John Dwyer, frontman of Thee Oh Sees, on some level you’re developing musically.
If you don’t know, Thee Oh Sees have been through countless personnel and name changes (they went from Orinoka Crash Suite to The Ohsees to finally The Oh Sees) along with changes to their sound. Today, they’re music sounds like a psychedelic garage band from California, and that’s meant in the best way possible.
With the new album Drop coming out on April 19 (which is also record store day,) The Oh Sees release another cut titled “The Lens.” Keeping in line with the trippy vibe, “The Lens” definitely sounds like the Beatles circa Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and that’s never a bad thing. Hopefully the rest of Drop is as tight as this track.
Listen to “The Lens” below.
