THE HUMPING PACT

THE HUMPING PACT

I traveled through Japan on a skate adventure with Terry Kennedy and a slew of trouble makers  on a filming run with the Ice Cram Skate Team. I will never forget Terry’s absurdist way of living, his enormous heart-warming smile, and his ability to comfortably hump inanimate objects in public spaces. The more public the better actually . . . Subway trains, traffic cones, shit, even traffic cops in Japan were all prime subject of Terry’s public humping. It somehow developed into a completely hilarious act of “especially not giving a fuck.” And a public performance piece really that I came to respect.

But… Alas. As all great things created and crafted by “the blacks,” “the whites” came in and cleaned it up, and sold it out.

Anyways, THE HUMPING PACT.

Pause.

“The Humping Pact is a suspended act of meditation on the nature of dissemination, the will to conquer, and the illusions of grandeur.

Using only two bodies multiplied across various landscapes, we attempt to create an aesthetic meditation on the human desire to believe in the futile and to conceive the impossible. Our coming together is a tribute to dysfunctional spaces that still emanate creative potential. We build an intimate and personal relationship with space and its architecture, being loyal to its demands and dedicated within our efforts. We want to release the tensions present within the structures that we encounter and channel them through the convulsed human body.

The project has been presented through a variety of media: in short film format (Oberhausen Film Festival), as video installation (BeursschowburgPACT Zollverein, Arsenal, Kunsthal Charlottenborg), live performances, lectures and workshops, internet videos, and photo prints.”
