Steen Jones’ Sailor Jerry Tribute
Artist and muralist Steen Jones gets an opportunity to paint an amazing Australian wall tribute dedicated to the memory of Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins.
I think it’s safe to assume that when Sailor Jerry Rum reached out to Melbourne-based visual artist, Steen Jones, for a commissioned piece, he jumped at the opportunity to tribute one of his legendary idols, Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins. Because, as it turns out, not only is Jones one of Australia’s premiere muralists, he also happens to be quite well-versed in water color and aerosol renditions of tattoo art, aka the-go-to-guy for a Brisbane wall that pays homage to the 40th anniversary since Sailor Jerry’s passing.
Vibe out to The Zombies’ “Time of the Season” while the video of Jone’s tribute highlights all of the crane operating and flowing-can details that went into emulating a 10×7 peacock-lady flash. Considered widely to be the father of old school tattooing, Sailor Jerry’s legacy continues to live on today in almost all forms of American flash tattooing.
