Staple wants you to fly the coop in style this summer with their new Mike Tyson capsule line. What might seem an unlikely pairing is forged in their mutual New York roots and affinity for pigeons. Staple has adopted the bird as a mascot of sorts and Tyson’s fondness for the breed is well-documented: his Animal Planet show “Taking on Tyson” not only followed his large scale pigeon races but also revealed that the former heavy-weight champion threw his first punch over a pigeon. “The guy ripped the head off my pigeon. This was the first thing I ever loved in my life, the pigeon.” Much like DMX with dogs, pigeons provided tranquility for Tyson, and he cared deeply for them.
The Mike Tyson x Staple Summer 2013 capsule collection consists of four limited edition graphic t-shirts, available in multiple colorways. A second collection will be released in the Fall, featuring two more graphic tees, an embroidered hooded sweatshirt, a fleece varsity jacket, and an exclusive Mitchell & Ness Snapback cap.
The Summer capsule collection was shot at Brooklyn’s Gleason Gym where Tyson and other world renowned fighters like Jake LaMotta and Roberto Duran had trained. Tyson grew up in Brooklyn, living first in Bedford-Stuyvesant and then Brownsville.
The collection is available at select Staple retailers worldwide.
