In 2004, we saw Simon Pegg and Edgar write and direct a brilliant film called Shaun of the Dead, which lead into two other films in a series titled the “Cornetto trilogy.” Hot Fuzz dropped in 2007 to much critical acclaim and The World’s End completed the series in 2013, but there may be another trilogy in the works from Pegg and Wright.
According to an interview with BBC 6 Music, Simon Pegg assures that “it will happen.” He continued saying, “we made three films in 10 years and hopefully in the next decade we’ll make another three.” Pegg revealed that he and Edgar Wright are already hard at work on another film, which already has “a title and everything”.
However, Pegg wants to make clear that this trilogy is absolutely separate from the original Cornetto trilogy of movies. “When we said the trilogy was over, it was because that group of films was over. They’re all kind of related with each other and deal with a specific idea. There’s a criteria to those films. The next thing we do won’t do that, it will just be something else,” he said.
It’s not yet clear whether Nick Frost will be appearing in these films, but I’m sure we can assume so. With Wright’s dropping out of Ant-Man, we hope he’s got a clean slate for a new batch of movies featuring the comedic duo of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.
