After linking up with L.A. native and ex-Raider Klan member DJ Dubplates for the excellent High at the Fairground EP back in August, Bad Taste Records boss Abdullah Al-wali returns with a solo project on his own imprint as Lean Low. The 4-track She Shoots To Kill EP features collaborations with Tony Quattro and Koetry, recorded during a brief trip to New York City, and showcases the London-based producer’s grime, U.K. garage, and bass music influences.
Today, we’re premiering the EP’s title track, an extract that features a soulful guitar line, warped vocals from Lean Low himself, and dashes of bright synths. “This track started life with the guitar lick you hear at the start until the very end,” Lean Low revealed over email. “That loop never got boring to me and all the extra noise and crackle added to the overall illness. It put me in a trance < 0_o > then the drums and melodies started playing in my head so I built a beat around it. All the vocals on this were sung by me. I can’t sing for shit so I processed the life out of it ’til it sounded weird and incoherent. She Shoots To Kill became the EP title track, and my favourite one out of ’em all.”
