Bay Area bass scene mainstay G Jones has linked up with fellow North California producer Bleep Bloop for a collaborative Mind EP on DJ Shadow’s Liquid Amber imprint. Today Mass Appeal is premiering “Real,” the first single off the upcoming EP, and a track which follows the duo’s last collaboration “Kodos.” The two producers approach music with what G Jones describes as “no rules,” and both take “influence from what we like about all genres…without thinking too hard about what genre box we can fit it in.” This particular single is techno-influenced, and explores minimalism as well as classic drum machine sounds. G Jones gave us a bit of insight into the track’s creation process over email:
“Aaron [Bleep Bloop] and I have both recently had a bit of a fascination with techno and old school machine drums and synthesizers. We are both very much outsiders to the world of techno, but wanted to write some music that incorporated elements that we like from that style—like really classic drum machine sound and minimal, repetitive synthesizers around 128 BPM—and work them into more of a half-time, bass heavy format.”
Stream and download the single below, and be on the lookout for the collaborative three-track project out November 3.
