After dropping Wildfire this past February, Bay Area trio Down 2 Earth is gearing up to re-release the project on CD and vinyl. “We wanna allow our fans who appreciate their music on other platforms to have that freedom. In a digital industry where people can easily pirate your music or stream it for free, giving them physical options to buy Wildfire is another incentive to support what we’re doing,” the band says.
Today, Mass Appeal premieres “Powers,” a new track that will appear on the re-release. Down 2 Earth shared the story behind the song:
“Powers” was one of the last songs to come out of the Wildfire sessions. We recorded the song with Kuya Beats and an up-and-coming Bay Area songstress Simmi. We got together in what we dubbed “Kliff’s Cabin” in Pinole, CA and started the record from scratch. We were thinking to ourselves, “This hook could use a female voice,” but instead of singing, we had Simmi chant. Once we decided to go in that direction, we knew the production had to be a bit mobby and agressive. Usually, it’s the opposite; we let the beat speak, then find a hook, then verses.
This jawn is releasing just in time for IAMSU!’s Eyes On Me Tour, which begins March 26. Down 2 Earth member Azure will be taking on the DJ responsibilities for the tour, so you can expect members Dayvid Michael and Clyde Shankle to make appearances as well.
