Lately Pharrell Williams has been spotted rocking a lot of adidas which makes more sense in light of him officially inking a design deal with the Three Stripes powerhouse. The recent news probably drew away attention from Skateboard P’s forthcoming collaboration with Japanese retailer Uniqlo. Williams and newly appointed Creative Director NIGO are storied pals, with creative endeavors that span across a multitude of mediums. It’s no wonder the two teamed up once again for the Pharrell Williams x Uniqlo UT “i am OTHER” collection.
The full “i am OTHER” collection entails a variety of t-shirt designs along with hats. Text heavy designs are encapsulated by the phrase, “The Same Is Lame,” along with logo tees pertaining to Williams’ i am OTHER collective. One thing can surely be said about P: he is far off in the stratosphere in terms of creative divergence.
With a price tag of $19.90 on each t-shirt, quality is an underlying concern. But Williams assures customers that attention to form and function was carefully devised. “It honestly feels like a 50 to 80 dollar tee in the terms of feel, the silhouette and all of the form, function and intention that was put into it by NIGO, his design and his re-appropriation of what a t-shirt is supposed to be,” Pharrell said in an interview with Uniqlo. He also boasts that when showing off the sample he realized that this would be a “revolutionary” endeavor.
When Pharrell talks, people listen. More importantly, what Pharrell wears, the fashion fellowship follows suit. The Pharrell Williams x Uniqlo UT “i am OTHER” Collection will be available in its entirety on April 14th in-store and online via Uniqlo.
