For Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, President Obama prepared a roast to follow E! Network’s The Soup host, Joel McHale. But few expected Obama to get all the laughs, while McHale’s jokes and racial commentary received groans from the crowd. “House Republicans actually give John Boehner a harder time than they give me, which means orange really is the new black,” said the self-proclaimed “best president in the game.” Congress was the butt of many jokes, with Obama quipping “If you want to get paid while not working you should have to run for Congress just like everyone else.”
“In 2008, my slogan was ‘Yes, we can.’ In 2013 my slogan was ‘control-alt-delete,’” Obama joked about the troubled rollout of the Healthcare.gov website. He also compared partisan struggles to DC traffic jams, joking that gridlock “has gotten so bad in this town – you’ve got to wonder, ‘What did we do to piss off Chris Christie so bad?'” The president also joked about the end of his term in 2016, saying, “Let’s face it, Fox…you’ll miss me when I’m gone….It will be harder to convince the American people that Hillary was born in Kenya.”
After his success as stand-up comedian for the night, maybe Obama doesn’t need to worry about his next career move. Check out the video player up top for Obama’s full speech.
