Music Of The Month: May
Listen to a mix of the best music from May.
We know how hard it is to sift through all the music out there. Earlier this month, we shared our Music Of The Month (So Far), and to keep the good times rollin’ we present you with May’s Music Of The Month.
The second half of May brought some great weather and tunes to boot. The drum god J Dilla‘s “The Doe” was liberated from a vinyl crate somewhere, to the delight of his acolytes. Formerly mysterious UK band Jungle brought the funkiness with their new single “Time.” Speaking of time and Brits, Four Tet produced “One Time” for ATL’s Rome Fortune, and La Roux (aka Young Tilda) dropped “Uptight Downtown” to put a little spring back into your step.
Sim Life remixed DOSS for a kaleidoscopic effect, and elsewhere in the remix department Greg Saunier added his touch to Shy Hunter’s “Idle Days.” Uptown connected with Shaolin for Bodega Bamz and Raekwon‘s collaboration, while Queens linked up with the Left Coast in the form of Ab-Soul and Asaad’s Nas-inspired cut “Stigmata,” featuring Action Bronson.
Newark’s Nadus mesmerizes with “Marriage Proposal,” off Broke City, and Adolescent put out a beautiful EP inspired by photographs of a trip through China called Golden Halls. A member of No Age and a member of Pissed Jeans combined to become the very loud Rat Fist, while Frank Leone terrified us with his nightmarish John Scott produced #CHILDSPLAY. We didn’t stay scared for too long, as A Sunny Day In Glasgow was there to lift us back up in the form of the delightful new track “Bye Bye Big Ocean (The End).”
Check out the full mix below and enjoy your weekend.
