Music Of The Month – July ’14

Music Of The Month – July ’14

With a new month, comes new music. And as usual, Mass Appeal is here to help you out. Throw on your headphones on and dive into the summer ears first.

Destruction Unit gets us started loud and fast with some noise punk melodies, but with a tinge of spaciness. Young Scooter moves some audio crack with the help of his friends Future and Casino with “Bag It Up,” while Ryan Hemsworth (with Qrion) gets the happiness flowing with “Every Square Inch.” Com Truise continues the feel good flows with a sunny remix of the usually more sedated, but wonderful nonetheless, Tycho.

British newcomers NUDES get electronic and soulful at the same time with the stellar “thirteen2thirteen,” and Slow Magic delights us with “Girls,” a fantastic summer jam . Late night debauchery crooner The Weeknd is back on top as he “Often” apparently is, while Rich Homie Quan channels his inner Drake in “From The Bottom.” Montreal soft rockers TOPS get it moving (gently) with “Sleeptalker” and Los Angeles pop rockers Music Go Music provide the soundtrack for your “Nite After Nite.”

Hieroglyphics spin-off Souls Of Mischief proves that 93′ was indeed until infinity with their new cut “There Is Only Now” featuring Snoop Dogg. Flying Lotus proteges The Underachievers overachieved on the East Coast with their powerful new track “Felicity.” Meanwhile, on the West Coast, M.E.D, Blu, Madlib and Dam Funk teamed up for “Peroxide.” It may not sanitize your wounds, but it’ll get your head boppin’ for sure. Catching Flies released a live version of “Stay Forever,” which adds a completely new dimension to the introspective sounding song.

Finally, we are happy to include with extreme bias the first track off our star-studded Mass Appeal Vol. 1, Old English,” in which Young Thug, Freddie Gibbs, and A$AP Ferg team up and supply everyone with a track to blast on repeat at your next cookoff. Drink. It. Up.

This month’s special guest contributor is Will Griggs, the founder of Cantora. Though best known as a record label, Cantora invests in and develops entertainment-focused starts ups and live events properties. They most recently released the Bear Hands album Distraction, featuring the incredible single “Giants.” His second pick for this month is FKA Twigs‘s new single “Two Weeks.”
