Director and photographer Kellen Dengler sent this video over to us a few weeks back and it was just released into the wild yesterday. It’s a 37 minute mini documentary that follows Maybach Music Group don Rick Ross and cohorts Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley, and French Montana as they take over NYC for three days while MMG was doing promotions for the release of Self Made 2. Here is what Kellen had to say.
“I’ve been documenting Stalley for several months now. He and I linked a few years back via a Nike project I was directing. Through documenting him, doors opened with some access with MMG. Usually when I have been amongst the whole group like this, there are tons of cameras all over the place. This was my first experience being the only person on site with a camera documenting them all together. Stalley introduced me to Rozay who was familiar with some of the previous work I had done, and he basically told me I had the exclusive and to go big with it.
Once I looked at my footage and realized what I had I wanted to show these guys as naturally as possible. Not a hype piece. Not a fan-boy piece, but a very natural presentation of them behind the scenes. I caught some very candid conversations and I thought it was really cool to see these guys in that light. I feel MMG hasn’t been shown like that before so that was my approach. I also wanted to represent each member as best as possible, which was the hardest part for me because Stalley was the only guy I really knew personally.”
Self Made 2 is in stores now.
