Miles Davis Honored With Street Name in NYC

Jazz took over the streets. Literally.

Yesterday, New York City paid homage to legendary jazz musician Miles Davis by turning 77th Street between Riverside and West End into “Miles Davis Way.” Davis lived in an apartment at 312 77th Street for almost 25 years.

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a bill to rename the street last December thanks to the efforts of Shirley Zafirau, a former neighbor of Davis who still resides on the block. Zafirau remembers Davis sitting on the stoop outside of his apartment, leading impromptu jam sessions and greeting passersby.
