Deadline reports that Robert Rodriguez has agreed to direct a live-action adaptation of Hanna-Barbera ’60s cartoon series Jonny Quest. The director tried his hand at another live-action adaptation back in 2009, The Jetsons, but the license is indefinitely in production Hell as of right now. (Despite previous reports, it’s been officially stated that Kanye West will not be attached to the project.)
The Jonny Quest film will be released by Warner Bros. and written by Rodriguez alongside Terry Rossio, who has screenplay credits for Disney’s Aladdin, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and The Lone Ranger. This film will be one of the newer Hanna-Barbera reboots since Turner initially acquired its licenses while merging with Warner Bros. in 1996.
Robert Rodriguez Jonny Quest film is just starting pre-production, so there’s no word on the cast or an official release date. We’ll be sure to update you once we have more details.
