Can we get a “What’s really good?” from the YMCMB fans? Right after Juvenile officially returned home, Weezy F. Baby (the F is for Finisher) released a new song off Tha Carter V. In case you were too busy getting an Ebola safe costume for Halloween this month and forgot the fact that Tha Carter V missed its October 28 release date, Lil Wayne delivered a three minute PSA to update you. After reinforcing the facts that he recorded too much music for a single album and that he wanted to get all of it to the people somehow, he tells us that he’s dividing his album into parts. The first part will now be available on December 9. He doesn’t say how many songs will be on that part, how many more parts there will be, or any other dates. But he does confidently state that “if you don’t f*cking love it, then you don’t f*cking love love.”
As for “Gotti,” it’s becoming more convincing that Wayne is our last sliver of a shot at an American platinum album this year in recorded music. Mixtape Weezy is back and makes up for lost time. And despite Rebirth Wayne making an uncredited appearance halfway through, the strong flows and simple-yet-clever wordplay will provide enough moments to remember.
“I took the star out of starvation / I come from a third world / Started rapping in the 4th grade / Start trapping in the 6th grade / Went Platinum in the 10th grade / Dropped out, a n*gga gettin’ paid / This when Birdman had a fade / This when Hummers didn’t come stretched / But Birdman had ‘em made…”
Although Sheek Louch’s absence was unexplained, Jadakiss and Styles P hold it down for the LOX. They trade lines, generally being unapologetically ruthless. On top of that, their pronunciation even seemed slightly Mafia, reminding this writer of Paulie and Silvio from The Sopranos. And that beat? If London On Da Track is behind that one as well, that man is going to be a serious threat to DJ Mustard.
