This must be a very emotional and stressful time for most hypebeasts and sneakerheads. Supreme just dropped their Fall/Winter 2013 collection, Kanye West just debuted the picture of his new born child North West, and Jordan is releasing the “Fear” pack this weekend. The pack includes the Air Jordan III, the Air Jordan IV, and the Air Jordan V. The kicks all come in dark and mysterious colorways to conceptualize the central theme of fear. The soles of the sneakers contain a quote from his royal airness, with a separate message on each sole reading:
I’m scared of what I won’t become and you’re scared of what I could become. – Michael Jordan
Just like most ambitious collectors, you’ll probably want to cop the whole pack but only have money for one, or two if you’re lucky. Whatever the case, I want to break down my favorite, from least to greatest.
Air Jordan “Fear” IV
The IV’s are simple, clean, and sexy. The black, white, cool grey and pure platinum colorway is well executed in correlation with the theme of fear. I can’t lie, I really like these sneakers but in comparison to their other “fear” siblings, they don’t compete.
Air Jordan III
The Air Jordan III sports a dark stadium-grey on the premium suede upper, with jet-black on the tongue and laces. The total orange accents applied to the logo, eyelets, and outsole bring the sneaker to life. The halloween-ish color palette contextualizes the idea of fear in the colorway. Overall, I really love the subtleness of the grey and the eccentrics of the total orange, but there is another sneaker that tops this one.
Air Jordan V
And the winner is … ( opens envelope) speech! The Air Jordan Vs are straight up grimy. I mean grimier than a Mobb Deep bass line in the ’90s. Let’s really break down the details of this majestic piece of art. The crackled upper is sequoia green, (when was the last time you heard sequoia in a sentence?) olive eyelets, an ice blue bottom, and a black tongue, which still boasts the classic 3M flash of my beloved Air Jordan V.What really puts fear into my heart, as well as other sneakerheads, is the fact that these joints are a quick-strike release, so pairs will be limited.
By the time you read this post you’ll be going through one of the following emotions:
1. Happiness, because for some reason the universe has favor upon you and your lucky ass got all three pairs.
2. Slight satisfaction, because you picked up a pair, but not the one you wanted (that would be I, said the cat).
3. Depressed and disappointed, because quite frankly you ain’t get sh*t, and your so salty that you plan to scuff the first person you see rocking the pair you wanted.
Whatever the outcome may be, the Air Jordan “Fear” Pack is still my Kick of the Week.
