London-born photographer and true student of the game Julian Germain understands that knowledge is power. This explains why he’s dedicated a large portion of his recent work to capturing international classrooms. His subjects have ranged from schools in Brazil and Nigeria to Yemen and The Netherlands. When shooting, he makes certain to not interrupt the flow of the lesson, instructing the pupils about the scope of his project and how important it is for them to be “themselves” and understand the significance of being documented. A publication about the portraits is in the works.
