Jerry Seinfeld Joins Wale in the Studio

There are no days off for Wale, who, on the cusp of releasing his third studio album, The Gifted, teases his next project. Before the DC spitter signed to MMG, his catalog stood on two “Seinfeld”-inspired mixtapes; The Mixtape About Nothing and More About Nothing. The former featured Julia Louis-Dreyfus on a song’s outro, and it looks like Wale’s time in the game has elevated his profile and connects.

Above, Ralph Folarian kicks it with the man himself, Mr. Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Jerry Seinfeld. What at first seems like a miscommunication, soon evolves into the outro for The Gifted, and a teaser for his previously discussed Album About Nothing. It’s not that we don’t support Wale and his new MMG fame, but the Seinfeld mixtapes felt contained within Le’s nerdy universe and not influenced by Rick Ross and more mainstream sonics. They had a singular focus that was such a far departure from the usual hip hop fare that the cuts still hold up today. His use of show clips to spin has yet to be paralleled, and it’s unlikely to be done so with such skill.

Catch the studio session with Jerry S. above, and pick up The Gifted, which is in stores today.
