Jae Tips – “South of Houston”
Jae Tips pours his soul, hustle, and talent into his latest mixtape, South of Houston.
Up-and-coming rapper Jae Tips, drops his latest project South of Houston. The Bronx MC spits hard bars about coming up in the rap game. The rapper’s sixth mixtape references the New York City neighborhood of SoHo, notable for its wide variety of trendy boutiques and upscale stores, and also serves as a hangout spot for artists and like-minded creatives. Song titles like “Bowery Blues,” “Wendys on Broadway,” and “Lafayette Gods,” help contextualize the project for those not familiar with the area. “Sold My Yeezys” is a personal favorite, as Tips speaks about the struggle of the big city and hustling sneakers with lines like:
“Dreams of a foreign car/ sold my Yeezys for the world star/ got jerked like a hand job/ but invested in me so we wouldn’t starve”
The project features production from BigBankdizz, GudamnBeats, DJKillak, and Grimz and features Sami Alexandra, Phil Walker, and KidFreddy. South of Houston is for anyone who can relate to the parallel of different worlds, and the price one is willing to pay for success.
