Jaded Incorporated (Mayer Hawthorne & 14KT) “Coconut Sofa”
We don't know what a coconut sofa looks like, but it sounds funky.
If we’ve come to expect anything from Ann Arbor’s Mayer Hawthorne, it’s that dude knows how to keep it funktastic. Jaded Incorporated is Hawthorne’s latest collaborative effort with high school pal 14KT, who handles instrumental duties for the duo. The two took to the interwebs to drop their inaugural track in “Coconut Sofa.”
Inspiration for this project stems from a mutual obsession with the Post-Punk and New Wave movements of the ‘80s, along with a knack for the Detroit Ghettotech and Booty music scenes made popular in the ‘90s. The effects of said influences blend into a nasty new concoction the duo is dubbing the “Beat Wave” genre.
This ain’t your average lyric video, the track’s lyrics are displayed traveling from body to body in unique tattoo styles. As for the song itself, Hawthorne’s tenor pitched tone floats effortlessly over 14KT’s mesmerizing synths, encouraging rump shaking and love making all at once. I don’t know what the fuck a coconut sofa looks like, but I do know it sounds ridiculously funkgasmic.
Jaded Incorporated’s debut album “The Big Knock” is slated for a June 17th release. Pre-order is available now via iTunes.
