Spotify has been doing an in-depth series of audio documentaries, and now they have turned their focus to Nas in light of the 20th anniversary of his coveted LP, Illmatic. Nas brought along other people who were pivotal in the creation of this project, such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, and Faith Newman, the A&R who put her credibility on the line to sign a young Nas.
The rarest piece of information in the documentary comes in reference to the sequencing of the album, which Nas admits he did not fully have a hand in (by his own choice). When speaking of the album’s sequencing which he left to Sony to handle, Nas said:
“I didn’t really choose them, because it was too much to choose,” he explains. “I had the songs, they were apart of the list. But I couldn’t, because it was so many things I wanted to put on there it would’ve been a quadruple album.”
