The holidays may be coming to an end, but winter is still in full effect. As the temperature continues to drop, and seasonal depression sets in, the last thing you want to do is leave the comfort of your toasty bed or crappy IKEA sofa. I understand the struggle is real out there and have your back. I’m setting you up with 15 random and amazing movies and pairing them with delicious winter friendly drinks that will make staying in feel as turned up as the club, minus the long ass line in the cold. With the Hibernation Playlist, you’ll never want to leave home again.

“Cool Runnings” – Roman Rasta Coffee

1 oz sambuca
1 oz dark rum
Hot black coffee
Whipped cream
Shaved dark chocolate for garnish

Pour the sambuca and dark rum into an Irish coffee glass. Fill the glass with hot coffee. Top with whipped cream and garnish with shaved dark chocolate.

“Boy” – Tom and Jerry

1 egg
1/2 oz simple syrup or 1 tsp powdered sugar
1 oz dark rum
1 oz cognac or brandy
Hot milk or hot water
Grated nutmeg for garnish

Separate the egg white from the egg yolk and beat them separately. Fold the beaten eggs together and place into an Irish coffee glass. Add the sugar or simple syrup, dark rum, and brandy. Fill with hot milk or hot water. Stir well. Garnish with grated nutmeg.

“Tortilla Soup” – Winter Punch

8 (1/4-inch-thick) orange slices, from about 2 oranges, for garnish
2/3 cup fresh or frozen cranberries, for garnish
3 cups chilled cranberry juice
3/4 cup chilled Tequila
2 (750-milliliter) bottles chilled brut sparkling wine or champagne

Place the orange slices in a single layer on a baking sheet or dish and freeze until solid, about 1 hour. Place the fresh cranberries, if using, in a single layer on another baking sheet or dish and freeze until solid, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, place a punch bowl in the freezer or refrigerator to chill. When ready to serve, place the cranberry juice and Tequila in the punch bowl and stir to combine. Add the sparkling wine or champagne. Float the frozen orange slices and cranberries in the punch and serve immediately.

“Harlem Nights” – Hennessy Hot Cocoa

1 1/2 ounces Hennessy VS Cognac
6 ounces hot chocolate
3/4 ounce spiced syrup
3 drops pure vanilla extract
Heavy cream to top
Grated nutmeg for garnish
Shaved dark chocolate for garnish

Add all liquids, except the heavy cream, to a heat-proof glass. Add the desired amount of cream on top. Garnish with grated nutmeg and dark chocolate.

“Coming to America” – Bourbon Eggnog

4 large eggs
6 oz  granulated sugar
1 tsp freshly-grated nutmeg
1/8 tsp allspice
1/8 tsp clove
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 oz Hennessy VSOP cognac
2 oz Grand Marnier (Navan can be substituted for a more pronounced vanilla flavor)
4 oz Bullleit bourbon
12 oz whole milk
8 oz heavy cream

*Best to prepare recipe the night before serving.

In a mixer fitted with a whip attachment or a blender, blend the eggs for 1 minute. Add sugar and spices and blend for an additional 30 seconds. Slowly add the cognac, bourbon and Grand Marnier, blend another 30 seconds. Add the milk and cream and blend 1 minute more. Cover and refrigerate.

“Set it Off” – Third Rail

1 oz applejack
1 oz rum
1 oz cognac
1 dash Absinthe

Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Pour into chilled glass.

“Clockers” – Hot Milk Punch

1 ounce dark rum
1 ounce brandy
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
1  cup milk
dash nutmeg

Stir dark rum, brandy and sugar together. Heat milk in saucepan until hot. Combine alcohol mixture and hot milk in a mug. Stir well and add a dash of nutmeg.

“Dead Presidents” – Black Ice

1 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. Canadian whiskey and maple syrup liqueur
2 oz. white cranberry juice
Ice cubes
2 or 3 fresh cranberries

Combine the vodka, whiskey, maple syrup liqueur and cranberry juice in a shaker filled with ice cubes. Shake vigorously for 8 to 10 seconds. Strain into a martini glass using an ice strainer. Garnish with 2 or 3  fresh cranberries.

 “Fargo” – Gingersnap


1 oz Kahlua coffee liqueur
1 oz Bailey’s Irish cream
1 oz Frangelico hazelnut liqueur
1 oz Jagermeister herbal liqueur
Ice cubes

Shake Kahlua, Bailey’s Irish cream, Frangelico, and Jagermeister in an ice-filled shaker, and strain contents into an ice-filled highball glass. Fill with cola.

“Pariah” – The New Black

1/4 ounce Absinthe
2 ounces rye whiskey
1/2 ounce Averna Amaro
Dash orange or Angostura bitters
Strip of lemon zest

Place absinthe in a chilled glass,  swirl to coat glass. Combine rye, Averna, bitters, and 1/2 cup ice in a cocktail shaker; shake for about 1 minute. Strain into prepared glass. Squeeze lemon zest over drink to release oils and add to glass.

“Crooklyn” – Hot Apple Toddy

2 oz whiskey or apple brandy
1 tsp sugar
Hot apple cider
Lemon wedge for garnish
Cinnamon stick for garnish
2-3 whole cloves for garnish

Coat the bottom of an Irish coffee glass with honey. Add the whiskey or apple brandy. Fill with hot apple cider. Stir well. Garnish with the lemon, cinnamon stick, and cloves

“Crash” – Hot Buttered Rum

1 small slice soft butter
1 tsp brown sugar
Optional spices to taste: ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, allspice
Vanilla extract
2 oz dark rum
1/2 cup hot water

Place the butter, sugar and spices at the bottom of an Irish coffee glass or mug.
Mix well. Pour in the rum and hot water. Stir.

“Maldeamores” – Coquito

1 15 oz can cream of coconut
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 12 oz can evaporated milk
6 oz white rum
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp coconut (or vanilla) extract

Mix all ingredients in a blender. Refrigerate for one hour before serving. Serve chilled.

“To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar” – Snow Honey

1 tsp of clover honey
1 1/2 parts Courvoisier VSOP Cognac
4 parts hot milk (or half and half)
Grated nutmeg for garnish

Combine all ingredients in a mug and garnish with nutmeg.

“Caramel” – Hot Apple Cider

4 cups apple cider
1 cup of caramel vodka
1 tablespoon cinnamon
Brown sugar to taste

Heat apple cider in sauce pan on medium heat. Add cinnamon and brown sugar. Heat until cider begins to steam. Add caramel vodka and stir well. Serve hot. Garnish with whipped cream and caramel.
