If you didn’t know, Mass Appeal takes its name from Gang Starr’s classic 1994 single. Keith “Guru” Elam, the group’s MC passed away in April 2010 and though he’s gone the legacy of the suave rapper with golden voice and socially conscious lyrics lives on.

BBC 1Xtra Radio recently dedicated a full hour to exploring Guru’s life, death, and legacy in their “Gone Too Soon” series.  The doc features interviews with his family; his partner in Gang Starr, DJ Premier; Common; and even Guru’s last business partner, reviled producer Solar.

The audio doc looks at his upbringing, music career and the controversy surrounding his death and relationship with DJ Premier and the Gang Starr Foundation.
