Four-wheelers rejoice as skateboarding’s official holiday, Go Skateboarding Day 2013, is finally upon us. And if the homie Timbo’s (Network A’s Dose) PSA doesn’t make it clear, allow us to break it down some more.
For those that may not know, June 21st, 2013 actually marks the 10th anniversary of its inception. What started out as a local congregation of riders in Southern California (organized by Don Brown of Sole Technology and the International Association of Skateboard Companies) has catapulted over the years into an internationally-recognized extravaganza of skateboard gatherings and sponsored events.
New York City’s part in Go Skateboarding Day is particularly on the map every year as it represents the breeding and stomping grounds of some the East Coast’s most iconic skateboard history. This year spares no expense as CCS partners with Nike SB, 5Boro, and Red Bull to celebrate riding in the Big Apple in a major way. Things kick off at 12PM at Flushing Meadows’ Maloof Park with a Red Bull Best Trick Contest. Skaters then head over to the Manhattan’s Coleman Oval LES Park at 3PM for 5Boro NYC and CCS x Nike SB best trick contests. And the festivities come to a close at an undisclosed location for an exclusive Nike SB Demo at 7PM. Attendees can expect special guest appearances from professional riders Paul Rodriguez, Stefan Janoski, and Shane O’Neill along with a likely who’s-who list of New York City skateboard leaders.
