UK beatmaker and full-time genius, Evian Christ, has revealed to self-titled that he’ll be working on the mysterious upcoming Kanye West album. He worked on last year’s messy masterpiece, Yeezus, and recently told self-titled that he’ll be working on this next Kanye album with some production assistance.
Christ told self-titled:
I’ve got to get home and write an Otis Redding–style beat for him. [Kanye] e-mailed last night. He wants something that sounds a bit like Otis Redding, a bit like Mobb Deep. Kanye is the one dude who’s like, ‘This is not experimental enough. This is too poppy. Make something else. The other guys are like, ‘We don’t get it.’
No word on when exactly Kanye West’s next album will drop, but we’re slowly piecing together some clues to give us some kind of idea of what direction it’s heading. Evian Christ is an experimental producer, for sure, while Kanye definitely showed us his sonically innovative style with last year’s Yeezus album. But a soulful Mobb Deep-type of production? I’m with it.
