If you’ve been a Mass Appeal reader since the days of the print mag or just a fan of fine photography you’re probably familiar with the work of Estevan Oriol. A member of the Soul Assassins collective that includes DJ Muggs, Cypress Hill, Self Scientific, The Alchemist, Krondon, Mr. Cartoon and others, Oriol has been responsible for documenting the lives of his crew members and iconic images of life and culture in his native L.A. for years.
What you might not have known is that Estevan, the founder of SA Studios, is a chip off the old block. His dad Eriberto is also an accomplished lensman who has been shooting for decades. This evening, at the Carmichael Gallery NY Pop Up at Chashama in New York City, two are doing a joint exhibition of their work appropriately entitled “Like Father, Like Son.” The show will include fifteen limited edition black and white, color, silver gelatin and digital c-prints from each photographer, including works exhibited at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA).
