Dr. Dre Offered a Key to Compton

Fresh off crowning himself hip hop’s first billionaire, Dr. Dre has been sought for yet another honor, this time by City of Compton Mayor Aja Brown. Reportedly, Mayor Brown has offered Dre a key to the city, a unique honor for the legendary producer.

The mayor reached out to Dre’s people in order to honor him for his entrepreneurship and ask if Dre wants to help clean up the city he once called home. Charitable efforts and performance sponsors would help the city tremendously, especially with the Dre’s pockets backing it up. Even if he doesn’t choose to help Compton out, Mayor Brown insists Dr. Dre still keep the key to the city.

Should Dre accept the offer, he’d join DJ Quik as a fellow honoree, who received a key to the city for donating $250,000 to Compton schools several years back. Dre’s not a stranger to donation efforts either, having partnered with Jimmy Iovine to donate $70 million to the University of Southern California in 2013 for arts-based scholarships.
