Directors and co-producers in crime Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau explore the history of New York City pick-up basketball in their documentary Doin’ It In The Park. The two traversed over 180 courts throughout the Big Apple while carrying their equipment and a basketball in a backpack–a filmatic ode to the accessibility of the game. Fans of the sport’s history will also be delighted to know that legendary street ballers like Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Richard “Pee Wee” Kirkland among others are scattered throughout the film as they drop their individual recollections of the game that made them kings of the playgrounds. Check out the latest theatrical trailer for the film with an option to purchase it digitally.
*Fans in New York City area can also head over to the New Museum this Saturday May, 4th for a special screening of the film.*
