Director Edgar Wright Leaves Marvel’s “Ant-Man”

Sad news for those who were anticipating seeing Marvel action on-par with the stylings of Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, or Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: Edgar Wright has officially stepped down from production of Marvel’s Ant-Man. The film is still due out July 2015, but unfortunately Wright will not be attached.

A statement released by Marvel’s movie studios doesn’t reveal any juicy details, but we can assume it may have to do with Marvel wanting more creative control on tying its characters with the Avengers film franchise.

Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on ANT-MAN due to differences in their vision of the film. The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.

Variety reports that another director may have already been set in place, so Marvel could possibly reveal that information soon. Hopefully, the Edgar Wright co-written script doesn’t fall that far away from its original premise.
