De La Soul Releases New Mixtape With Production From J Dilla

Today De La Soul has released their Smell the Da.I.S.Y. mixtape for the masses and the only way to get your hands on it is through BitTorrent. This follows the February release of their entire catalog for free on their website due to sampling issues. Having teased the release of the album all month it finally sees the light of day. Fans can expect refined rhymes juxtaposed with the production stylings of one J Dilla.

Making the pilgrimage to Detroit to work on the project group member Posdnuos likened Dilla to Tupac saying that the late Dilla, like Tupac “had a wealth of music that no one has heard” and mentioned “how integral his production was to their work.” Along with Dilla’s sonic offerings fans can expect to receive the the audio track “Smell the Da.I.S.Y. Letter,” a Dilla documentary “Still Shining” and some bonus Dilla wallpaper art.

Folks can look forward to more gifts from the leaders of hip hop’s “golden era” as they have two more releases scheduled for this year: You’re Welcome, slated for the summer and Preemium Soul on the Rocks, a six song EP featuring beats from Pete Rock and DJ Premier that will be released later this year as well.
