Dave Chappelle and John Mayer Spontaneously Cover Nirvana Together In Los Angeles
Sutble rewind to that time Mayer was a guest on 'Chappelle's Show'
One of the benefits of living in a major mecca like Los Angeles, is having two mega-celebrities randomly link up at an elite, private hotel party. That’s what happened last night at L.A.’s Hotel Cafe, when Chappelle joined Mayer on stage at Cafe, surprising the crowd of his private function.
Little footage has surfaced following the event, but some decent phone footage clearly shows Chapelle and Mayer going at it over Nirvana classics, performing duets and trying their hands at solo covers. In addition, the duo took a crack at Tom Petty’s “Free Falling,” as shown in the Instagram video below.
The appearance, despite the spontaneity involved, isn’t completely random. During a episode of Chappelle’s career-making Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central, John Mayer made a guest appearance alongside Chappelle in a barbershop scene that also featured Questlove. Last night, the two reignited their chemistry.
Also, perhaps Chappelle wanted to serve a subtle reminder that he’s back on the scene, thanks to a lucrative Netflix deal that will deliver three exclusive Dave Chappelle comedy specials. Mayer has a new project of his own on the way, The Search For Everything.
