Darrelle Revis to Be Charged With Making Terroristic Threats After Alleged Street Brawl
One report says Revis knocked 2 men unconscious in Pittsburgh
Darrelle Revis, former Super Bowl champion and current cornerback for the New York Jets, is expected to be charged with making terroristic threats, robbery, conspiracy and aggravated assault after allegedly assaulting two pesky fans that followed him after identifying him on the streets of Pittsburgh.
Revis, a native of nearby Aliquippa, was reportedly walking in the street when he was approached by two men that “complimented his clothes,” then tried to confirm whether or not Darrelle Revis was really the Darrelle Revis. According to WTAE, the two men subsequently followed Revis, recording him on a phone, which is when things got a little spiky.
The Jets star allegedly asked the men to stop following him, and when they didn’t, Revis allegedly grabbed the phone and flung it into the street. As Deadspin points out however, two reports–one from WTAE, the other from KDKA–disagree on exactly what happened next.
WTAE says that the two men were then punched, and injured to the point that they had to be taken to the hospital afterwards. That report doesn’t specify who threw the punches–even if, given the surrounding details, Revis is the most sensible answer–but another report, from KDKA, says that instead, Revis was assaulted by 5 men, and it was Revis that ended up in the hospital after the incident.
Less than an hour before the time of this writing, Pittsburgh police released an official statement regarding the sequence of incidents that resulted in the pending charges against Revis, and you can read it below, courtesy of Deadspin.
On Sunday, February 12 at approximately 2:43 a.m., Zone 3 Officers were dispatched to the intersection of S. 23rd and E. Carson streets for a report that two males had been knocked unconscious. According to the investigation, a 22-year-old male from Kittanning was walking along E. Carson Street when he spotted a male who resembled Aliquippa native Darrell Revis, a cornerback in the NFL. He asked if the man was Darrell Revis and he confirmed that he was. The male began recording the interaction on his cellphone and continued following Revis. At some point, Revis snatched the cellphone away and attempted to delete the video. Another 21-year-old male from Ross Township attempted to help the 22-year-old retrieve the cellphone. Revis then tossed the phone onto the roadway. A verbal argument followed. A male came to assist Revis. Both the 22-year-old and the 21-year-old state they were punched then remember waking up to talk to police. Witnesses state the two were unconscious for about 10 minutes. The Officers viewed the cellphone video and confirmed that the person was Revis. Charges are pending against the 31-year-old Revis to include robbery, terroristic threats, conspiracy and aggravated assault.
Whatever happened, this much seems apparent: Revis was involved in a physical altercation with at least two people, and he’s in a bit of legal trouble because of it. We’ll have updates on this story once they’re made available.
