A recent study in the UK asked over 2,000 people about their attitudes on androids, according to The Daily Beast. While about a third expressed fears about robots threatening jobs or humanity in general, some Brits had something else in mind: 1 in 5 admitted they would have sex with a robot. “People would rather have sex with something that knows exactly what it’s doing, where we know exactly how it will react, and how long it will take, and how good it will be,” said one of the participants in the study, who is happy that she “got into a relationship before sleeping with C-3PO became the norm.”
From the robot lovers in Lil Kim’s “How Many Licks?” video to Japan’s “industrial masturbator,” the idea of getting it on with a robot is nothing new. Technology is playing an increasingly large role in peoples’ sex lives today, and some fear that it is destroying the intimacy and spontaneity of natural carnal encounters. In Japan, a breed of young men known as “otaku” prefer virtual girlfriends to real-life interactions, part of a decreasing trend in actual live sex reported in several countries.
Will droids take over as our chosen sex partners as well as taking over the world? Only time will tell!
