Chucky Thompson Breaks Down Nas’ “One Mic”

Producer Chucky Thompson describes the creative insights that went into manifesting Nas' now classic track "One Mic".

The Grammy Award-winning Chucky Thompson recently sat down to formally break down some of his most infamous of productions. The first in a 3-part series by The Uber Urban tells the story of Nas’ “One Mic”. According to Thompson the whole idea behind the song arose shortly after the Nas and Jay-Z beef of 2002. The premise was to create a song that would calm even the most heated of situations. Inspired by Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” and the notion of a quiet-chorus and rising verses, the song manifested itself into an unparalleled composition that truly impressed Thompson about Nas’ musical and creative abilities.
