It seems TDE has a found a Jhene Aiko to call their own. This week, Canadian-born songstress SZA announced her signing to Top Dawg Entertainment.
This past year, the young singer has enjoyed quite a bit of success having dropped two self-released EPs, Just SZA, and S. Since my own discovery of SZA’s beautifully reverbed words early last year, I’ve all but obsessed over her dreamy vocals that are always paired so perfectly with airy, glimmering beats.
Talks of SZA signing to a major label have been buzzing for the better part of 2013. Considering the amount of attention and broad appeal she’s garnered, I doubt anyone is surprised. Not to mention, SZA’s new home at TDE couldn’t be more fitting. If you’re like me, you are frantically clawing through the netz looking for any indication that a Kendrick or Q collab is already in the works.
To celebrate the announcement SZA debuted two new tracks, a moody haunt titled “Teen Spirit,” and an ’80s inspired cut, “Julia.” Take a listen to both tracks below and stay tuned for much more from this budding young star.
