Premiere: BriskInTheHouse – “Tickets To The Roxy”
No breakdancing allowed
While BriskInTheHouse was too young to witness the legendary performances and breakdancing battles that took place at New York City nightclub The Roxy firsthand, the 26-year-old emcee is very much aware of the venues importance in hip hop history, and pays respect to that history with his new mixtape Tickets To The Roxy.
Don’t let the title fool you, though, Brisk isn’t rhyming over Arthur Baker’s electro-laden breakbeats from “Beat Street.” On the contrary, his project aims to bring that golden era flavor, a point he makes extremely clear from the start with the instrumental “Intro.” Hissing keys dance around crisp snares, while the kicks knocking underneath will have you nodding your head so hard you may need to hit your nearest hospital for neck brace.
The project is light on features, allowing Brisk to showcase his skills. Fellow BKR$CLB members The 6th Letter and Brandon Chey are the only artist that make an appearance. The beats on the project comes courtesy of New Zealand-based producer Tony Douglas, Lord Quest, and Brisk himself.
