With social media today, sharing content is quicker and easier than ever before. A tag on a street corner can be posted on Tumblr and get reblogged thousands of times around the world. A musician can tweet a link to their music and the right retweet can expose them to an audience of millions. And a photographer keeping an ongoing stream of iPhone photos on Instagram can establish a perspective, a voice, and a name for themselves.
Taking his name from the Madlib song (and clearly one of his favorite hobbies) Bluntbreak has done just that on Instagram. With New York City as his muse, Bluntbreak’s photostream consists of cityscapes that range from birds-eye-view shots taken from rooftops (often accessed illicitly) to trips to the city’s underbelly, exploring tunnels, tracks, and other ruins most people don’t even know exist. That sprinkled with graffiti, girls, and occasionally ganja, if you’re not already “following” him, you’ll probably want to.
In fact, this week saw two milestones for the young photographer. A couple days ago Bluntbreak’s Instagram account broke 10,000 followers, earning him a much coveted “K” next to the number when you go to his profile. It continues to grow exponentially. The other milestone is that today is this talented young buck’s 21st birthday. To celebrate the occasion we had him select his 21 favorite photos from his Instagram photostream and tell us what makes each one stand out. So raise your glass and click through the gallery below.
Took a trip to an abandoned prison. Found the main cell block with missing stairs. I really wanted to get to the higher levels but with no stairs what was I to do. So I did the only rational thing, climb.
