Activist punk band Bikini Kill have started their own label, Bikini Kill records, in order to re-release their classic ’90s material. First out the door was a reissue of 1992’s Bikini Kill EP, and next on the plate is 1993’s Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah, which is set to include new photos and liner notes, along with seven previously unreleased songs; one of them being “Girl Soldier.”
Bikini Kill started in Olympia, Washington in 1990, and released music steadily until their breakup in 1997. Singer Kathleen Hanna, also known for her early-2000s group Le Tigre, married Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz, a.k.a. Ad-Rock, in 2006. The early days of Hanna and Ad-Rock’s relationship, along with her battle with Lyme disease, are chronicled in the 2013 doc “The Punk Singer.” Ad-Rock also filmed part of a video for Hanna’s new project “The Julie Ruin.“
